Do You Express Gratitude Daily?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

How often do you wake up and never give it a thought that you survived the most dangerous part of your life, sleeping, night time or day time if that is when you slept?

Researchers have found that lack of sleep can more than double the risk of death from cardiovascular disease. However they have also found that point comes when too much sleep can also more than double the risk of death. (Science daily.com)

So you see, waking up is something to express gratitude for.

Sometimes we take so much for granted, we don’t stop to think about the small things in our life, the things that make a difference. When was the last time you were grateful for the roof over your head, or the warm bed you sleep in, or the hot meal you just ate, or the car that gets you to where you want to go, so reliably. These are the small things in our daily life, that we take for granted, and which we should truly be grateful for. The little things you have and take for granted are things that someone else does not have, and would love to have.

Why Should We Express Gratitude?

According to Harvard Business School giving thanks makes you happier. Cultivating a regular practice of genuine appreciation for the good things in life can do wonders for your health and even the health of those around you. Research has also shown that those who offer up gratitude on a regular basis, are more likely to get through tough times in their life.

“Giving thanks for what we value makes us really consider what we do value,” says psychologist Christine Celio, PhD. “It allows us to clarify our priorities and think about how we are living. Is what we are doing consistent with what our values are? And if not, what can we do to live more in line with what we believe? Thinking about gratitude can do more than benefit us emotionally – it can encourage us to change our behaviour to live differently, and, hopefully, better.”

Reduce Your Stress with Gratitude

It has been shown that practising gratitude helps to reduce stress levels. So if you are feeling stressed about work, home, relationships or money, then look to practising the art of saying thank you for what you already have. When you are thankful for what your have, then more ‘good’ things seem to come to you. Grateful people are less likely to become stressed, depressed or psychotic.

Try it and see.

Write down your Gratitudes

The best thing you can do is to write down all the things you are grateful for and reflect back on them now and then. You will be surprised at how many things in your life you are grateful for.
